Beaufort, SC – On Friday, April 26, USC Beaufort honored its graduates during a memorable commencement ceremony held outdoors at the library plaza on the Bluffton campus. A total of 366 degrees were awarded in the academic year 2023-24, with 265 students receiving their degrees last week and an additional 101 students honored in December.
The ceremony was presided over by USCB Chancellor Al M. Panu. He delivered heartfelt words of encouragement and pride to the graduates as they embarked on their post-academic journeys. University of South Carolina system president Michael Amiridis also addressed the audience, offering insights and motivation for the new graduates, families, faculty, and staff present.
In addition to the graduation celebrations, the university conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Public Service upon local entrepreneur, environmentalist, and philanthropist Richard (Dick) Stewart, recognizing his impactful contributions to the community and beyond. The invocation and benediction were delivered by Rev. Alex Glenn, a member of the USCB Class of 2020, who provided a reflective moment for all attendees.
The commencement marked a pivotal moment for the graduates, celebrating their hard work and dedication throughout their academic careers. Many students expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided by USC Beaufort, as well as the support from their families and friends. The event highlighted the growth of the university and its commitment to education in the region.
In related educational news, the Beaufort County school system is experiencing slight improvements, as noted in the 2024 S.C. Report Cards for local schools. This follows a decade of implementing pre-packaged lessons for teachers, which has been met with criticism for not improving student performances. Educators and administrators are continuing to look for innovative strategies to enhance learning outcomes within the community.
As the USC Beaufort graduates move forward, they carry with them the skills and knowledge learned during their time at the university. This year’s ceremony encapsulated not only individual achievements but also the broader narrative of community growth and educational excellence in Beaufort. This celebration symbolizes hope and ambition for the future, as the graduates step into new roles and responsibilities in society.
