In the beautiful coastal city of Beaufort, we are always proud of our veterans who have served our country with dedication and valor. This week, we are turning the spotlight onto an exceptional individual, Tim Dorrill.
Tim, who is a spry 53 years old, is a proud former member of the United States Marine Corps. His journey in the service began in the city of Charlotte, N.C, where he enlisted in 1991. From Charlotte, he headed off to Marine Boot Camp at the renowned Paris Island training base.
Specializing in Aviation Ordnance, Tim was stationed at MCAS New River, N.C for a good deal of his service. During his time there, he was part of the critical operations in Twentynine Palms and aboard the mighty USS WASP (LHD-1), during the height of an uprising in Haiti. His resilience and leadership were put to test in the most challenging of situations.
His duty called him to serve in various parts of the globe. From MCAS Kaneohe, Hawaii; he was deployed aboard the USS New Orleans (LPH-11) to the western Pacific, visiting Australia and Korea. His dedication to his duty was evident when he was stationed at NAS Oceana, Va., from which he was deployed to Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico.
In 2003, he found himself back in lovely Beaufort at MCAS Beaufort. His commitments took him to Iwakuni, Japan, and the Al Asad Air Base in Iraq. Tim’s final duty station before retiring was again at MCAS New River, from which he was deployed to Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan.
After a career spanning over 21 years, Tim retired in 2012 from active service as a Gunnery Sergeant. Post-retirement, he returned to Beaufort. However, his love for his Marine Corps family didn’t end. Tim is now actively involved with the Marine Corps League and the Combat Veteran Motorcycle Association. He is using his expertise and experience to support the community and his fellow veterans.
Tim is a shining example of the spirit and resilience of our veterans who serve our country and community tirelessly. We are incredibly proud of his service and his continual dedication to his fellow veterans and his city. Here’s to you, Tim Dorrill, our Veteran of the Week!
