Beaufort and Jasper counties are offering a free summer tax preparation program for qualifying residents who missed the traditional tax filing deadline. This program is a joint initiative between the IRS, Beaufort County Human Services Alliance, and United Way of the Lowcountry (UWLC).
The program is designed to assist low-income individuals and families, non-English speaking taxpayers, people with disabilities, and seniors aged 60 and above in accurately and efficiently filing their federal and state tax returns. “Our summer tax preparation program allows residents to receive free assistance from IRS-certified volunteers, ensuring they receive every deduction and credit they deserve,” stated United Way Volunteer and VITA Program Coordinator Sherry Halphen.
The free tax preparation assistance will be provided by IRS-certified VITA volunteers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays on June 27, July 25, August 22, and September 26. The
venue for the program will be at the United Way of the Lowcountry Bluffton Office. To partake in this program, residents need to book an appointment by calling 843.321.9071 or
by sending an email to lowcountryvitacoalition@gmail.com.
Indivisible Beaufort will hold a meeting themed, “How to Deal with These Profoundly Disorienting Times.” Reverend Lori Hlaban of Beaufort’s Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is set to speak at the event. She will also lead a workshop on managing anxiety titled, “Hope for the Best — It May Happen!” The event will take place on Saturday, June 29 at the Beaufort Library Downtown at 311 Scott Street.
Beaufort resident Jonas Gadson has been honored with the presidential lifetime achievement award. The accolade, set to be presented on June 19, recognizes Gadson’s commitment to his work as President and CEO of Partners for Purposeful Living LLC. His remarkable work as an executive, professional and business coach in public speaking, and effective communications played a key role in earning him this honor.
Starting Monday, July 1, solid waste hauler licenses for 2024-2025 will be available for all associated collectors and haulers operating in Beaufort County. The present ordinance necessitates all contractors providing residential waste collection and transportation within the county to obtain a license. Contractors and haulers can obtain a license along with decals from the Beaufort County Solid Waste and Recycling Department.
