Spread Holiday Cheer in the Lowcountry: Community Initiatives to Give Back

Spread Joy This Season in the Lowcountry!

As we cozy up to the warmth of the holiday season in the beautiful Lowcountry, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on how we can give back to our community. While we all love receiving gifts, there’s a special kind of joy that comes from helping those in need. Whether it’s serving meals, donating toys, or just lending a helping hand, there are plenty of opportunities to spread some love this season.

Operation Holiday Heroes

This year, the United Way of the Lowcountry is stepping up with its inspiring initiative called Operation Holiday Heroes. In partnership with local organizations such as Toys for Tots, Bluffton Self Help, Deep Well Project, and others, this program aims to ensure that every child in Beaufort and Jasper Counties receives toys and necessities this Christmas. You can play a role by donating toys. Just swing by the United Way office at 1277 Ribaut Road or find drop-off boxes scattered throughout both counties.

Bluffton Self Help

The holidays can be stressful, but Bluffton Self Help is here to take some of that weight off your shoulders. They are providing much-needed groceries until December 15, ensuring families have what they need for holiday meals. And if you’re looking for the perfect gift, their Holiday Toy Shop is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 39 Sheridan Park Circle. Get involved and learn more by visiting their website!

Santa’s Shop and Joyful Dinners

The Deep Well Project has something special planned too! They’re launching Santa’s Shop, where families can select gifts for their kids. From December 10-17, parents can browse for toys secretly—no peeking allowed! They also need volunteers to help prepare and deliver Christmas dinners to families in need. Interested in helping out or donating? Check out their website for all the details!

Helping Hand Center and Combatting Loneliness

Another great initiative is happening through Lowcountry Volunteer Connections. They are preparing individual care packages for elderly and disabled residents in Jasper and Hampton Counties. You can assist by donating essential items or helping deliver these care packages. Plus, they’re teaming up with Meals on Wheels for a Fighting Loneliness Campaign, providing food for pets of elderly clients. It’s a win-win to keep both our seniors and their furry friends happy!

The Community Christmas Dinner

On Christmas Day, everyone is invited to join the Orphans & Strays Christmas Dinner at Panini’s and Hemingway’s Bistro. Starting at 2 p.m., this community dinner welcomes everyone to enjoy delicious food, all prepared by volunteers. Bring a dish to share or just come as you are—the more, the merrier!

The Food Drive and Toy Donations

Last but not least, emergency responders in Beaufort County are organizing their 3rd Annual Food Drive and need your help! Until December 13, you can drop off non-perishable food items at various locations across the county. On top of that, the Lowcountry Toy Drive is collecting toys through December 18 to ensure every child has a gift to unwrap on Christmas morning. Just check their Amazon Wish List to see what’s needed!

Join the Spirit of Giving!

This holiday season, let’s come together as a community and make a difference. Whether you’re donating, volunteering, or simply spreading kindness, your efforts will surely light up someone’s festivities. Happy holidays, Lowcountry!
