What’s up, folks? Heads up if you live in Beaufort County! Your friendly sheriff’s office is telling everyone to stay sharp and look out for some scamming mischief going around your neighborhood. These sly fraudsters have found a new trick up their sleeves. They’re pretending to be your local police officers, and believe me, they’re convincing.
Just this past week, the sheriff’s office got a bunch of calls from all sorts of people saying they’d been hit up by someone pretending to be from the sheriff’s team. They were tricked into shelling out cash for so-called “fines” or “penalties” linked to stuff they never knew they messed up, like missing jury duty or some other stuff.
The sheriff’s office wants everyone to remember something very important – they don’t do business like that. They’ll never ask anyone to make payments over the phone for these kinds of criminal matters, period. And if you get a call that smells fishy, don’t be shy, just hang it up!
If you’re even a little bit curious about the call, you can always ask for a callback number, and then give it to the sheriff’s office to check out. Be cautious, guys. Never ever give out any of your personal or bank information to anyone, unless you have an established relationship with them.
Last but not least, stay woke! These scammers are always cooking up creative ways to play tricks on innocent people, aiming to part them from their hard-earned money. So, be smart and stay alert out there!
It’s not all bad news though; you can do your bit to warn others and stop the scams. Make sure you spread the word to your buddies, family, and neighbors about these scams. Honestly, we all have a responsibility to look out for each other so that no one gets scammed out of their hard-earned money.
