Port Royal Library All Set for Grand Opening this August

Port Royal Library All Set for Grand Opening this August

Hey folks, get ready to mark your calendars! Port Royal is all set to open its spanking new library this month. The doors to this hub of knowledge and community engagement will open officially on August 21 at 2 p.m. But wait, that’s not all. The public is cordially invited to join the Grand Opening and the Ribbon-Cutting Celebration which will take place on the following Saturday, that is, August 24. The festivity will kick start with the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 10 a.m., followed by a fun-tastic story time event and refreshments.

Stroll around, check things out – guests will be encouraged to tour the building, have a chit-chat with the library staff, and of course, apply for their library cards (if they haven’t already). Don’t forget to check out books and other materials while you’re at it!

A Community’s Intellectual Heartbeat

As per Beaufort County Councilwoman Alice Howard, “Public libraries are the heart of democracy and reflect the best of our society”. She firmly believes that the Samuel E. Murray Library, named after Port Royal’s beloved mayor, will strengthen the unique community of Port Royal and bolster Beaufort County Libraries’ mission to enrich learning, leisure, and life.

All the Awesome Stuff Inside

Curious about what treasures the library holds? Wait till you hear about its collection—it boasts a collection that caters to the taste of kids, teens, and adults alike, with over 5,000 materials including books, movies, and more. On top of that, the library will also provide the community with dedicated meeting and conference rooms and tech resources. Talking about the tech-side of things, there will be public computers and a self-service station for scanning, faxing, and emailing tasks.

The Vision Bears Fruit

The Library Board of Trustees, especially the Chair Lynne Miller, couldn’t be happier about seeing their vision materialize, thus adding another source of knowledge, education, and entertainment to the Port Royal Community. Miller thanked the County Council for their steadfast support in making this project a reality.

When’s a Good Time to Visit?

The library will entertain visitors Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Unfortunately, it’s going to be closed on Sundays, but hey, six days a week isn’t a bad deal, right?

“I am overjoyed to welcome the residents of Port Royal to our beautiful new branch library;” expressed Library Director Amanda Brewer Dickman, “We have designed this branch keeping community’s needs in mind and aim to provide access to information, technology, and programs that inspire and educate our community.”

For more specifics about the library, you can visit the Beaufort County Library’s official website. So, what are you waiting for? Join the grand opening, explore the library and let’s create a new chapter of learning and community building in Port Royal together.
