A Day Full of Celebrations in Port Royal

A Day Full of Celebrations in Port Royal

Hey there, pals! This past Saturday was a day to remember in Port Royal. We had not one, but two grand ribbons being cut for a brand-new public library branch and a restaurant. Yes, you read that right! To top it all off, we had some amazing street music lighting up the night. The weather was also on our side, with pretty cool temperatures in the low 80’s, which had hundreds of locals out and about, happy and cheering on the progress.

The new library branch is, in fact, the sixth one in our county system. We dedicated it to the memory of the late Mayor Sam Murray, who was an integral part of the town council for over 41 years. Now that’s a legacy, isn’t it?

And let’s not forget about the restaurant. A local couple took charge and opened their dream restaurant in a building that has been empty for months. Located right on Paris Avenue, it’s something you should definitely check out!

After the day’s official launches, the town-sponsored street music on Paris Avenue got everyone dancing to some New Orleans beats – at no cost. So, we can all agree it was a winning Saturday for our town.

Changes in Beaufort County Operations

In other news in Beaufort, the new county administrator, Michael Moore, is already making his mark. Since he started on the 1st of July, the man’s had to make some tough calls, including firing three employees for visiting a gun store during working hours. There have been some mixed feelings on this, so we’ll see how it turns out. Let’s just say that Moore certainly has his hands full with multiple lawsuits on the horizon, such as complaints from the county Treasurer Maria Walls and the Pine Island developers.

The Brouhaha about Buc-ee’s

You might’ve seen Buc-ee’s if you’ve traveled up North on I-95. It’s a massive gas station in South Carolina, and it’s been quite a hit for the Florence community. But here’s the scoop – the County Council recently okayed an additional 100 acres of farm land across Buc-ee’s for some future commercial buzzing. However, not all were happy about it. The residents of Back Swamp community showed their concerns. They weren’t thrilled about their peaceful rural community getting commercialized.

Unfortunately, their protest didn’t stop the rezoning from happening. As the story often goes, development plans won over preserving the rustic charm. So next time you hit the road and stop over at Buc-ee’s for a sandwich or to use the world-class restrooms, remember there’s more to it than meets the eye.
