North Charleston Man Charged with Aggravated Voyeurism After Disturbing Incident at Shopping Outlets

North Charleston Man Faces Charges in Voyeurism Incident at Outlets

North Charleston, S.C. – In a rather unsettling turn of events at the Tanger Outlets, a Beaufort County man has found himself in hot water after allegedly engaging in aggravated voyeurism.

The Incident

According to police reports, the situation unfolded on November 11, 2024, when 42-year-old James Erroll Garner of Seabrook was accused of recording a woman in the restroom. The woman, who was out shopping with her husband, felt a strong sense of violation just as she was trying to enjoy her day.

As she made her way to the restroom, she noticed a man lingering near a vending machine, but thought little of it. However, as she began using the bathroom, her experience quickly turned from ordinary to alarming. She spotted a dark cellphone sneaking its way into her stall from the left side, capturing her every move. Talk about a shocking surprise!

A Call for Action

Reacting instinctively, the woman yelled for the man to leave and immediately called her husband for back-up. It was a bold move, and thankfully, her husband rushed into the restroom to confront the situation head-on. Moments like these remind us how important it is to speak up and take action when we feel unsafe.

The Aftermath

Following the confrontation, police were called to the scene. Garner was subsequently booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center on Monday, December 9, 2024. Fast forward to the next day, and he was released on a $40,000 bond. For a situation like this, it raises some eyebrows about how we as a community protect each other and respond to such troubling behavior.

Ploys of Voyeurism

Voyeurism is a serious crime that affects the privacy and safety of individuals, and it’s not just a one-off occurrence. Unfortunately, these types of incidents pop up more than we would like to imagine. Many victims end up feeling vulnerable and fearful in places that should be safe and private—like a restroom. That’s why having a supportive partner or friend with you, just like in this case, can truly make all the difference.

Community Concerns

Residents of North Charleston and frequent shoppers at the Tanger Outlets are understandably shaken by the news. Many are now questioning their own sense of security while out in public. It’s important for communities to come together to ensure safety measures are in place to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Prevention is key!

As more details unfold regarding this case, it serves as a wake-up call for everyone to stay vigilant and aware of their surroundings. Whether you’re out shopping or taking a stroll in the park, always remember to trust your instincts and speak up if something feels off.

Conclusion

As we watch this story develop, it’s vital to foster an environment where individuals feel safe and respected in their communities. After all, a simple day out shopping should never lead to a situation that makes one feel threatened. We stand with the victims and their rights to privacy and security in public spaces.
