Ground Broken on Exciting New Development in Hardeeville
Big Changes Coming to Highway 17
In a heartwarming ceremony that took place on Thursday, November 14, residents of Hardeeville witnessed the groundbreaking of an impressive new economic development site. The 880-acre site is poised to bring a significant transformation to the area, and it’s all thanks to a collaboration between North Point Development and CrossHarbor Capital Partners.
Imagine six million square feet of warehouse and industrial space bustling with activity—a vision set to come true right along the lively corridors of this vibrant city! Wow, what a way to kickstart some serious economic growth!
Investing in the Future
Phase one of this ambitious project represents a whopping $200 million in capital investment. And it’s not just about the big bucks—this initiative is expected to create more than 550 jobs once fully built out. That’s a huge win for the community, bringing in job opportunities that many residents have been eagerly awaiting.
Located right along the significant I-95 and I-17 highways, the site is a prime location! Its close proximity to the Port of Savannah, which is just 15 minutes away, means businesses can benefit from fast access to the Eastern Seaboard. This brings endless possibilities for trade and logistics, making Hardeeville a crucial player in the economic game.
Empowerment Through Employment
Hardeeville Mayor Harry Williams was all smiles during the ceremony, proclaiming that the South Atlantic Logistics Terminal (SALT) will have a lasting positive impact on the community. He believes this critical corridor along Highway 17 will become a pathway to success, with individuals from around the region gaining access to good-paying jobs that were previously hard to find here in South Carolina.
“The best part is,” the Mayor added, “this development will also provide much-needed funding for our schools, which will help us attract the best teachers.” What a community-minded mission!
Local Contractors Stepping Up
On the construction front, JH Hiers has been selected as the local contractor to handle the master infrastructure work. With offices found in Beaufort, Charleston, and Walterboro, they’re no strangers to making large project dreams become a reality! They will be working on the development of roadways, stormwater retention, and sewer systems to make the area functional and beautiful.
Officials are also excited to announce that this site will be served by a new regional water line, further supporting development in the area. With around $8 million in state grant funding, JH Hiers will be stepping up to construct and install this vital waterline project.
A Skilled Workforce Awaits
SouthernCarolina Regional Development Alliance, the entity working closely with all project partners, has pointed out that there is a *skilled labor pool of over 400,000* people within a 60-mile radius of Hardeeville. This means that businesses relocating to the new site will have no shortage of talented employees. They’ll also benefit from renowned workforce development programs, including South Carolina’s readySC worker training program, which is designed to equip workers with the skills they need to succeed in today’s job market.
A Bright Future Ahead
With all the excitement surrounding the site, Marty Sauls, both the Jasper County Council Chairman and Southern Carolina Alliance Chairman, shine a light on the importance of this investment for the entire region. “This is critical to attracting future investments and creating more job opportunities for our hardworking residents,” he said, filled with optimism.
Finally, Mark Hall, a Principal of NorthPoint Development, expressed gratitude for the support from various organizations, including the city, county, and state. “It’s all about teamwork and collaboration,” he emphasized.
As the infrastructure work progresses, which is expected to wrap up by October next year, Hardeeville residents can look forward to brighter, more prosperous days ahead. This project marks the beginning of a new chapter for the community, setting it on a course for robust growth.
Keep your eyes peeled, folks—big things are coming to Hardeeville!
