Lowcountry Wrestlers Shine in Latest Rankings with May River Leading the Charge!

Lowcountry Wrestlers Make Waves with New Rankings!

The South Carolina Lowcountry is buzzing with excitement as the latest wrestling rankings have just dropped! Fans and teammates alike are celebrating the stellar performances of local athletes, as 37 wrestlers from our region are proudly representing their schools in the rankings released on December 19.

Top Dogs in Class 4A

Leading the charge is May River High School, which holds the coveted title of number one in Class 4A. They’re not just riding high on team spirit either; several of their individual wrestlers are dominating their weight classes. Ryan Seman, a sophomore, is strutting his stuff at the top of the 106 weight class.

But it doesn’t end there! Junior Marcus Foulk is making waves as well, holding down the top spot at 113 and keeping a strong presence at 120 where he’s currently ranked fourth. Other standout wrestlers from May River include Blake Butler coming in at seventh in 157 and Josh Echeverria, who’s got his sights set on victory as he ranks third at 190. May River’s Leandro Larranaga also snagged a spot in the rankings, making it clear that this team is filled with talent!

Beaufort’s Rising Stars

Not to be outdone, Beaufort High School has made its mark by breaking into the top ten, securing the eighth position in Class 4A. A huge shout-out to senior Antonio McKnight, who’s flexing his muscles as he ranks second in the 138 weight class. The Beaufort wrestlers are gearing up for a strong season ahead!

Battery Creek and Bluffton Also Shine

In Class 3A, Battery Creek isn’t far behind, holding the ninth spot. Junior Nate Najar is showcasing his skills, currently ranked fifth in the 150 weight class. Meanwhile, Bluffton High School is also making headlines with Caleb McTernan, a sophomore who’s ranked second at 106 and senior Gabe Fulton who stands third at 157. Keep an eye on these teams—they’re definitely not here to play!

Girls Wrestling on the Rise

The girls’ wrestling scene is equally compelling! Bluffton has made a splash, currently sitting at eighteenth in South Carolina. Leading the charge for them is senior Jada Lawrence, who is ranked first in the 145 weight class. At Hilton Head, Rosa Olivetti is ranked eighth at 110 and Jourdyn Mootry is right behind her, sitting at seventh at 135. We can see that the girls’ divisions are heating up, and they’re all gearing up for some exciting matches ahead!

Savvy Performers in SCISA

If we dive into the SCISA rankings, we can’t overlook John Paul II making waves as they rank fourth. With wrestlers like Chase LaFountain and Brian Orta steadily climbing the ranks, there’s lots to be excited about for them as they continue to sharpen their skills.
