Eight Annual Lowcountry Book Club Convention is Coming Up in Beaufort and Bluffton

Get ready, book worms! The Eight Annual Lowcountry Book Club Convention is right around the corner and it’s shaping up to be a real page-turner. Hosted by the non-profit Pat Conroy Literary Center, this year’s shindig is set to take place on September 27th and 28th at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort and the Culinary Institute of the South at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Bluffton.

Warm Up with Local Wordsmiths

Things kick off Friday evening, where you’ll get to hear from four talented local authors. Novelist Virginia Hall-Apicella (Even a Sparrow), journalist Michael DeWitt Jr. (The Fall of the House of Murdaugh), novelist Pete Masalin (Military Brat), and novelist Kim Poovey (Shadows of the War) will be there to share their wisdom and experiences. But that’s not all! There will also be a book signing and reception catered by Downtown Catering.

Food for the Stomach and the Mind

Hold on to your bookmarks because the convention continues into Saturday. Over at the Culinary Institute of the South in Bluffton, there will be three author keynote conversations – brace yourself – with gourmet box lunches catered by Downtown Catering. This year’s headliners include novelists Kimberly Brock and Rhonda McKnight, and the award-winning middle school librarian Amanda Jones. And yes, there will be book signings following each conversation.

All About the Keynote Authors

Kimberly Brock is a bestselling author whose latest novel, The Fabled Earth, will be released on October 1st, with early copies available at the convention. Amanda Jones, an educator for 23 years, published her first book, That Librarian, which garnered attention from numerous national publications. Award-winning novelist Rhonda McKnight penned The Thing About Home and has the Emma Award for Inspirational Romance under her belt.

Get to Know the Local Authors

Michael M. DeWitt Jr., a native of Hampton County, is a journalist and author whose most recent work, Fall of the House of Murdaugh, has been highly acclaimed. Virginia Hall-Apicella’s novel, Even a Sparrow, is a fictional tale about her ancestors’ journey from Europe to America in 1815. Pete Masalin grew up in a Navy family and used his experiences to write Military Brat. Kim Poovey, author of Shadows of the War, is also an accomplished storyteller and Victorian reenactress.

Remember, you need to register for the convention by September 22nd. So, what are you waiting for? Grab those tickets, gather your book club buddies, or just come for the joy of a good story. Either way, we’ll see you there!
