Bluffton residents, are you ready to roll up your sleeves and give back to our beautiful community? Mark your calendars for September 21 because it’s time for the 35th Annual Beach Sweep/River Sweep! This lively event will kick off at 9 a.m. and wrap up by 11:30 a.m. at the Bluffton Oyster Factory Park, conveniently located at 75 Wharf Street.
This isn’t just another cleanup; it’s an opportunity for residents, business owners, and anyone who loves the May River to come together in the spirit of community. The Town of Bluffton encourages all who are interested in keeping the riverfront clean to join in. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, everyone is welcome to lend a hand!
As you participate in this meaningful endeavor, you’ll have the chance to clean up the scenic shores of the May River, clear nearby streets, and spruce up the parks in the historic district. It’s a fantastic way to spend a morning, connect with fellow residents, and make a difference for our natural environment.
Volunteers, get ready for a treat! The town has you covered with free coffee to fuel your efforts, as well as lunch and snacks provided for all who lend a helping hand. Talk about a win-win situation!
Don’t worry about bringing supplies; the town will supply everything you need for a successful clean-up. They’ll provide gloves, bags, vests, water, sunscreen, and even bug spray. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm and willingness to help out!
This year, the event has brought together a fantastic lineup of partners, including local organizations and departments like the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, and the Lowcountry Stormwater Partners, just to name a few! Together, these partners are passionate about fostering cleaner water and keeping our environment pristine.
With organizations such as Keep Beaufort County Beautiful and Palmetto Pride joining in, you’ll find that the community truly rallies around this cause. Also, there are partnerships with local businesses like Palmetto Running Co. and Corner Perk to ensure that the event is not only productive but enjoyable for everyone involved!
If you’re interested in participating but have more questions about the event, don’t hesitate to reach out for more details. You can contact Nicole Wright, Bluffton’s Stormwater Technician, at (843) 540-6958 or send an email to nwright@townofbluffton.com. She’s eager to provide you with all the information you need.
This is not just about picking up trash; it’s about creating a stronger sense of community. So gather your family, friends, and neighbors, and let’s show our love for the beautiful May River and Bluffton! Let’s make this year’s Beach Sweep/River Sweep an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Your little effort can spark big changes for our environment!
