Exciting Developments for Homeownership in Hardeeville!
Hardeeville, SC, is buzzing with good news for its residents! The Jasper County Neighbors United (JCNU) organization has just received a generous grant of $220,000 from the Beaufort Jasper Housing Trust, and this funding aims to make a significant impact in the local community. Out of this amount, $90,000 is designated for essential home repairs, while the remaining $130,000 will go towards down payment assistance, which can be a game-changer for those looking to purchase a home, whether new or existing.
A Message from JCNU’s Leadership
Tedd Moyd, the President and CEO of JCNU, expressed his excitement about the grant, stating, “We are very happy that JCNU was one of the recipients of this much-needed program, and applications for it are currently being accepted.” This financial boost marks a positive step forward and is expected to facilitate home ownership for many families across Hardeeville and Jasper County.
How to Apply
If you’re interested in applying for this wonderful opportunity, here’s what you need to know: applicants must provide various pieces of documentation, including identification for all residents of the home, Social Security cards for everyone living there, proof of income for all occupants, a copy of the property deed, and evidence of payment for the 2023 real property taxes. Applications are being accepted every Monday from 9 a.m. until noon at the JCNU office located at 37 Main Street, Hardeeville, SC, 29927. For any questions, you can reach the office at 843-288-4328.
Future Plans for Community Development
But wait, there’s more! JCNU has exciting plans in the works. Moyd shared that they will soon embark on a new mixed-use project at 37 Main Street. This facility, tentatively named the Jasper County Neighbors United Nonprofit Center, will serve as a one-stop shop for nonprofits dedicated to assisting financially challenged residents in Jasper and Beaufort counties.
A Hub for Essential Services
Imagine a place where you can find all the resources you need under one roof! According to Moyd, the current design plans for the center include 14 offices on the first level for various nonprofit organizations, as well as JCNU’s corporate offices. The second level will feature homes available for sale, specifically designed for financially challenged families—a perfect solution to tackle the housing needs in the area.
“Having all or most of those agencies in one building makes sense,” Moyd explained. “It would serve as an umbrella where families can access all the necessary services to help them thrive.” This center aims to save residents valuable time and eliminate transportation barriers for those with limited means.
Looking Ahead with Partnerships
Even more exciting news comes as Moyd mentioned the potential for a second phase of their project. They are exploring a partnership with Habitat for Humanity to build additional units on the same property. “Further information will be shared once agreements are finalized,” he assured.
Celebrities at the 25th Anniversary Gala
This year also marks a significant milestone for JCNU, as they celebrate their 25th Anniversary in the affordable housing sector. They will host a gala on Oct. 19 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Hampton Hall Country Club in Bluffton. The event will feature the Honorable Lloyd “Fig” Newton, a retired Four Star Air Force General and local native, as the keynote speaker.
Guests can look forward to a lovely evening with a sit-down meal and a fashion show, accompanied by music from Gwen Yvette and Company. Tickets for this special event are priced at $100, and this includes door prizes and opportunities to bid on merchandise from local businesses. For more details, be sure to contact the JCNU office!
Join the JCNU Team
Lastly, if you’re passionate about helping others, JCNU is on the lookout for new board members who can join their Board of Directors. “We invite anyone interested in making a difference for low-income residents seeking affordable housing to come forward,” said Moyd.
There’s so much happening in Hardeeville, and with initiatives like these, the community is surely on a positive path toward providing better living conditions and opportunities for all.
