Hardeeville is buzzing with excitement as the city has officially bestowed a generous grant of $150,000 to the Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL). This funding is set to boost the construction of the highly anticipated Arthur E. Brown Regional Workforce Training Center, a project aimed at equipping the community with essential skills for modern job markets.
The check was ceremoniously presented on December 10, 2024, during a special event attended by city officials and local leaders. Among the attendees were Hardeeville’s Mayor Harry Williams, Army General Arthur E. Brown Jr., and TCL President Richard Gough, all of whom shared in the joy of this significant milestone. The construction on this vital educational facility initially broke ground a few months prior, on April 26, 2024.
The Arthur E. Brown Regional Workforce Training Center is more than just a local initiative; it’s part of a larger $10 million funding package allocated by the state of South Carolina in 2023. Combining this with contributions from Beaufort County, the funding for the training center rises to a notable $21 million. The total estimated cost for completing the center is projected to be $26 million, showcasing the scale and ambition of this educational venture.
When finished, the training center will be an expansive site, covering 50,000 square feet and accommodating up to 850 students. This will be the second facility added to TCL’s New River Campus located in Bluffton. The center isn’t just about providing space; it’s about fostering future-ready skills through various programs.
