Brunson Welcomes a Halloween Baby

In the charming town of Brunson, there’s a little extra magic in the air this Halloween! Meet Colsen Malphrus, the newest addition to the Malphrus family! Born on October 31 at an early 2:01 a.m., Colsen made his grand entrance into the world weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces. What an exciting way to celebrate Halloween, right?

Colsen’s parents, Lauren McAlhaney and Adam Malphrus, are over the moon with joy, and we can’t blame them! They weren’t the only ones celebrating this spooky season at the Beaufort Memorial Collins Birthing Center—Colsen was one of three adorable babies born there on Halloween. Talk about sharing a special day!

Making things even cozier for the little ones, the talented members at Sea Island Quilters gifted a festive Halloween quilt to the new arrivals. And it doesn’t end there; the BMH Crafters went above and beyond by creating crocheted bat capes and candy corn treats for these precious little pumpkins. The sense of community spirit is truly heartwarming!

South Carolina Rallies Together to Rebuild Post-Hurricane Helene

Meanwhile, in broader news, the community spirit in Columbia, South Carolina, is shining brightly as support pours in to help those affected by Hurricane Helene. Since the devastating hurricane hit, over $5 million has been contributed to the One SC Fund through the Central Carolina Community Foundation. This is a record-breaking amount donated for a single cause since the fund was established back in 2015.

The One SC Fund is all about helping nonprofits provide aid in the South Carolina counties designated as disaster areas by FEMA. This initiative has been incredible in rallying support and making a difference where it matters most.

It is incredible to see the generosity of all the organizations, individuals, and companies who have given to the One SC Fund,” stated Georgia Mjartan, the president, and CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. Their generous contributions ensure that nonprofits have the resources to perform the meaningful work of relief and recovery in the areas hit hardest by the hurricane.

A Collective Effort

Since the fund was activated on October 1, 2024, many well-known companies and foundations have stepped up. This includes generous donors like the Foundation for the Carolinas – Greater Charlotte Business Community Disaster Relief Fund, Blue Cross BlueShield of South Carolina, Wells Fargo, Genentech, and even Rooms to Go and Delta Dental of South Carolina.

Grants totaling $450,000 have already been awarded from the One SC Fund to support vital food banks in the area, including Golden Harvest Food Bank, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Lowcountry Food Bank, and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. These food banks are essential, ensuring that those in need have access to nourishing meals during tough times.

If you’re feeling the urge to get involved or want to help, contributing to the charitable fund is a breeze! Donations can be made online at www.OneSCFund.org or by mailing a check to the Central Carolina Community Foundation.

Nonprofits Ready to Assist

And it’s not just about donations; nonprofits providing Hurricane Helene relief and recovery in South Carolina can apply for grants of up to $50,000. Grant applications are available on the same website, encouraging community organizations to get the help they need to make a positive impact.

In a world where generosity knows no bounds, the stories from Brunson to Columbia highlight the strength of community bonds and unwavering support in both joyous and challenging times. If you have the heart to give, now is the perfect time to step up and contribute. Together, let’s make a difference!
