Hey there, Ridgeland! It’s that time of year again when the streets come alive with excitement and a splash of vibrant pink! The 52nd Annual Gopher Hill Festival is set to take place from October 3rd to 5th, and this year’s theme is especially close to many hearts—“Breast Cancer Awareness: Paint The Town Pink”. The festival chairperson, Linda Dailey, pointed out that the reason for this pink out is to raise awareness about breast cancer, aligning perfectly with the national recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
One of the most touching aspects of this year’s festival will be the community’s effort to honor those affected by breast cancer. Survivors and those currently undergoing treatment will have their own float in the grand parade, making them the esteemed Grand Marshals for this year! How amazing is that? You can witness this heartfelt tribute on October 5th at 10 a.m. as the parade winds its way through downtown Ridgeland.
The festivities will kick off on October 3rd with a wonderful Gopher Hill Children’s Parade starting at 5 p.m.. This parade will begin at the Farmer’s Market on Main Street and make its way to the Gazebo on Main Street, so be sure to bring the kiddos and cheer them on! After the parade, don’t miss out on the traditional turtle races, a talent contest, and even a baking contest. There will be a variety of food and vendors present, perfect for snacking while you enjoy all the activities.
The fun continues on October 4th with live performances you won’t want to miss! The Nautical Wheelers will take the stage at 5 p.m., followed by the East Coast Party Band lighting up the night starting at 8 p.m. on Railroad Avenue. And, of course, there will be plenty of food and vendors around to keep the party spirit going strong.
Now, let’s get to the excitement of the Gopher Hill Festival Parade on Saturday, October 5th. This parade is a true highlight, beginning at 10 a.m. and traveling down North Jacob Smart Boulevard. It’s a community celebration filled with floats, music, and a whole lot of local spirit!
Don’t forget that Saturday is packed with events! The day kicks off with a 5K walk and run at 8 a.m., starting from Ridgeland Baptist Church. This is a great opportunity to get a little exercise while supporting a good cause! If you love cars, be sure to check out the car and truck show that will run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 601 S. Green St. in Ridgeland.
The opening ceremonies will take place at noon, followed by some exciting performances including a Dunamis Karate demonstration. Magic Mark, a fantastic magician from Savannah, GA, will be performing during the festival on Saturday as well. What a treat!
As the sun sets, the music continues! Catch Cherry Grove as they open the night at 6:30 p.m., leading into a performance by the Charlie Daniels Legacy Band. There’s no better way to end a festival day than with great music and an electric atmosphere.
So, gather your friends and family, throw on some pink, and get ready for a wonderful time at the Gopher Hill Festival! With activities for all ages and a deep sense of community spirit, this festival promises to be memorable. Let’s make this year’s festival a vibrant and meaningful celebration!
