Hey there, Ridgeland folks! It’s that time of year again – the 51st Annual Gopher Hill Festival is set to take place from October 3-5, and this year’s theme is extra special. With October being recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the festival is going all out in pink to show support and raise awareness for breast cancer. The festival’s theme, “Breast Cancer Awareness: Paint The Town Pink,” reflects the community’s commitment to honoring those affected by this disease.
This year, the festival committee has something truly heartwarming planned. Survivors and those currently undergoing treatment will be recognized in a parade, serving as the Grand Marshals. Chairperson Linda Dailey shared, “The reason for the pink out is to raise awareness of breast cancer.” It’s a beautiful way for the community to come together, celebrate life, and support each other.
The festivities will kick off on October 3, at 5 p.m. with the Gopher Hill Children’s Parade. The parade will start at the Farmers’ Market, travel down Main Street, and wrap up at the Gazebo. It’s always a delightful sight, filled with the laughter of children and families enjoying the community spirit!
After the parade, make sure to stick around for a variety of events including turtle races (yes, you read that right!), a talent contest, and a baking contest that promises to bring out the best culinary talents in the area. Plus, there will be plenty of food and local vendors set up, so be sure to bring your appetite!
As the festival continues on October 4, live music will take center stage. Kick back and enjoy the performances starting with the Nautical Wheelers at 5 p.m. followed by the East Coast Party Band at 8 p.m. on Railroad Avenue. Nothing says festival fun like good music and good food, which you’ll find in abundance as numerous food vendors set up shop to satisfy all your cravings!
Now, October 5 is the big day! The featured Gopher Hill Festival Parade will commence at 10 a.m. and travel down North Jacob Smart Boulevard. The sights and sounds of the parade are always a highlight, with floats, music, and, of course, the community spirit lighting up the streets.
If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, why not participate in the 5K walk and run taking place at 8 a.m. at Ridgeland Baptist Church? It’s a great way to kick off the day! You can also check out the car and truck show running from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 601 S. Green St – perfect for auto enthusiasts!
After the exciting parade and day of fun, the opening ceremonies will take place at noon, setting the stage for more performances and demonstrations like a detailed Dunamis Karate showcase at 1 p.m. and magic tricks from Magic Mark hailing from Savannah, GA. The musical talents of Cherry Grove will kick off the evening at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Charlie Daniels Legacy Band, which is sure to get you on your feet!
The Gopher Hill Festival is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate community, support a worthy cause, and just enjoy the festive atmosphere. So mark your calendar, gather your friends and family, and come out to Ridgeland for an unforgettable weekend filled with joy, laughter, and solidarity. Let’s Paint the Town Pink together!
