As the vibrant city of Ridgeland gears up for its 52nd annual Gopher Hill Festival, everyone is buzzing with anticipation for a weekend filled with fun, community spirit, and a special message of hope. Scheduled from October 3-5, this year’s festival features a unique twist: a sea of pink!
This year’s theme, “Breast Cancer Awareness: Paint The Town Pink,” highlights an important cause—raising awareness about breast cancer. Festival Chairperson Linda Dailey explains, “The reason for the pink out is to raise awareness of breast cancer.” October is recognized nationwide as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, making the festival not just a local celebration, but also a significant platform for education and support.
The festival committee is paying tribute to those who have bravely faced breast cancer, both survivors and those currently in treatment. A special float will honor these amazing individuals as this year’s Grand Marshals in the Gopher Hill Festival Parade, which kicks off at 10 a.m. on October 5 in downtown Ridgeland. This heartfelt gesture is just one way to show appreciation for their strength and resilience.
The festivities will kick off on October 3, starting with the Gopher Hill Children’s Parade at 5 p.m. Children will gather at the Farmer’s Market on Main Street and parade their way to the Gazebo. It’s a chance for the little ones to shine!
But that’s just the beginning. Following the children’s parade, festival-goers can enjoy a variety of events including turtle races, a talent contest, and a delicious baking contest. Plus, the streets will be filled with local food vendors, providing a taste of what the region has to offer. You can’t miss out on the mouth-watering treats!
As the sun sets on October 4th, get ready for a musical feast! The Nautical Wheelers will take the stage at 5 p.m., followed by the lively East Coast Party Band at 8 p.m. on Railroad Avenue. It promises to be a night filled with dancing and unforgettable tunes!
Saturday, October 5, offers plenty of action! Before the main parade gets underway, early risers can join in the 5K walk and run starting at 8 a.m. at Ridgeland Baptist Church. If cars and trucks are more your speed, don’t forget to check out the car and truck show that runs from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m..
Later, the opening ceremonies will kick off at noon, keeping the energy high as the community comes together to celebrate. Following that, the excitement continues with a Dunamis Karate demonstration and a series of musical performances, ensuring there’s entertainment for everyone!
Keep an eye out for Magic Mark, a magician from Savannah, GA, who will be dazzling audiences on Saturday with his enchanting tricks. This is not just for the kids—everyone will have their jaws dropped!
As the festival winds down on Saturday, don’t miss Cherry Grove opening the night performances at 6:30 p.m., right before the Charlie Daniels Legacy Band takes it home. It’s an evening you won’t want to miss!
The Gopher Hill Festival truly has something for everyone. So gather your friends and family, and come out to support a wonderful cause while having a blast! For more details, feel free to check out the festival’s official site. See you there!
