Excitement Grows in Beaufort County as Early Voting Hits Milestone
Beaufort, SC – The buzz around Beaufort County is palpable as early voting gains momentum. With about 33,000 residents having cast their ballots so far, Monday marked a significant achievement, becoming the highest single-day participation since early voting kicked off last week. The county’s election officials are thrilled with the turnout, which is shaping up to reflect a robust civic engagement this election season.
Early Voting Details
Early voting is currently available from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday through Saturday, providing plenty of opportunities for residents to make their voices heard. The early voting period runs from October 21 to November 2,
a timeframe that many are taking full advantage of. According to Marie Smalls, who leads the county’s board of voter registration and elections, around 26% of registered voters have already participated. This promising trend bodes well as the election date approaches.
Statewide Early Voting Surge
Beaufort County isn’t alone in this enthusiasm. Across South Carolina, early voting is shattering previous records, with over 735,000 residents having cast their ballots so far. This number not only exceeds the early voting turnout from the 2022 general election but also showcases a state-wide commitment to participate in the democratic process. Smalls mentioned that comparing this year’s statistics with previous years can be tricky since it’s only the second time South Carolina has implemented early voting in such a manner since 2022. “The second week typically sees a bit more action than the first,” she observed, hinting that we might see a continued uptick in turnout in the coming days.
Tips for Voters
For those planning to hit the polls, it’s good to know when to go. Smalls has noted that the longest lines tend to form between 7 to 8 a.m.. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, she recommends aiming for the late afternoon, particularly between 5 to 6 p.m.. This period usually offers shorter wait times, making the voting experience more pleasant.
