Celebrating Local Veteran Nicholas Young and His Impact on the Beaufort Community

Celebrating Our Local Veterans: Nicholas Young

Beaufort is buzzing with stories of dedicated service, and we’d like to take a moment to shine a light on one extraordinary local veteran, Nicholas Young. At just 37 years old, Nicholas has an impressive history that showcases not only his commitment to the United States Marine Corps but also his dedication to his family and community.

From Indiana to the Marine Corps

Nicholas grew up in Warsaw, Indiana, and in 2006, he answered the call to serve by enlisting in the Marine Corps. Like many recruits, he began his journey with Boot Camp in San Diego, followed by Marine Corps Combat Training at Camp Pendleton. However, what sets Nicholas apart is his specialized training as an ejection seat technician, which he completed in Pensacola and at MCAS Cherry Point.

After this rigorous training, Nicholas joined a squadron that would lead him to exciting and challenging deployments. He packed his bags and headed out aboard the USS Essex, USS Iwo Jima, and USS Wasp, making two trips to the western Pacific and one to the Middle East. Through these deployments, he not only honed his technical skills but also embraced the camaraderie that comes with military life.

A Journey of Growth

Following his extensive deployment experience, Nicholas served at the Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth, Texas, where he played a pivotal role in fielding the cutting-edge F-35 Lightning II. This work undoubtedly contributed to the evolution of modern military aviation and underscored his expertise in the field. After a fruitful stint there, Nicholas made his way to MCAS Beaufort to serve with another F-35 squadron for three years before moving to MCAS Yuma in Arizona. There he took on the role of maintenance control chief in the Operation and Test squadron, showcasing his leadership abilities.

Education and Retirement

While maintaining an active-duty lifestyle, Nicholas took advantage of the GI Bill to pursue higher education. He earned a BS degree in Business Management, which has equipped him with valuable skills to transition into civilian life seamlessly.

In 2024, after serving with distinction as a Gunnery Sergeant, Nicholas retired and moved to Beaufort with his lovely wife, Brianna, and their two beautiful daughters. This family-oriented move encapsulates his strong value for family and community support.

A New Chapter as a Community Member

Today, Nicholas is making waves in the Beaufort real estate scene. He has joined Century 21 Coastal Town Realty on Lady’s Island, where he uses his skills and experience to help families find homes and settle into the wonderful community of Beaufort. His passion for service continues as he engages with local residents, helping them navigate the property market and providing insights drawn from his experience as a veteran.

Giving Back to the Veteran Community

In addition to his real estate endeavors, there’s a lot of buzz around town regarding veterans’ services. This year, Beaufort’s own Veterans Affairs office has partnered with Lowcountry Legal Volunteers to provide free legal assistance for veterans, showing a commitment to ensure that those who served our country receive the benefits and services they richly deserve. With inquiries pouring in from veterans like Carley Willing, it’s clear that there’s a growing need for support.

Conclusion

As we celebrate the service and sacrifice of veterans like Nicholas Young, let’s continue to foster an environment where our heroes feel appreciated and supported. Their stories inspire not just pride in our community but also motivate us to take action, ensuring that our veterans receive every resource they need to thrive.
