Beaufort Welcomes the Blue Angels in Style!
BEAUFORT – The skies above Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort buzzed with excitement on December 6, 2023, as two dazzling blue and gold Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornets, representing the famed Blue Angels, made a thrilling entrance. Touching down at precisely 8:55 a.m., these high-speed marvels were there to promote the upcoming Airshow slated for the weekend of April 12 and 13.
Meet the Flyers
Arriving after a brisk 55-minute flight from Punta Gorda, Florida, the Blue Angels were greeted by a host of enthusiastic attendees, including high-ranking officers from MCAS Beaufort, local media, and several area Marines ROTC groups. Blue Angel No. 7, USMC Maj. Scott Laux, and Blue Angel No. 8, U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Lilly Montana, were excited to land and met with a warm welcome.
“We went about as fast as we could, and it still took about an hour,” Laux shared with a smile. Maybe it wasn’t as fast as they could go, but at nearly .95 MACH, that’s some serious speed!
On a Mission
Both pilots highlighted that their mission isn’t just to put on a great air show. They are there to inspire and connect. Over the next couple of years, they’ll be visiting each of the 32 air show sites, engaging with community leaders and organizers who help bring the Blue Angels to towns just like Beaufort.
“Our goal is to showcase the teamwork and professionalism of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps,” Laux explained. “We hope to motivate young people to pursue aviation, serve their country, and achieve excellence in whatever they do.” And it’s not just the kids; they aim to inspire adults, too!
The Joy of Travel
What do these seasoned pilots love most about being Blue Angels? It’s the people they meet along the way! Laux shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We encounter so many incredible people who are enthusiastic about our mission. It’s a high-energy crowd, and that’s something I thrive on!”
Montana echoed his sentiments, adding, “I just love being part of this organization. We have 140 sailors and Marines, along with a professional civilian support staff. Everyone here has reached great heights in their military careers, and the excitement is palpable.” The teamwork among the squadron is nothing short of phenomenal.
Upcoming Airshow Excitement
As the date of the air show fast approaches, the excitement in Beaufort is mounting! It’s not just a chance to witness breathtaking aerial skills but to support the mission and values of the Blue Angels. Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast or just looking for a fun weekend activity, mark your calendars! This is set to be an event that the community will talk about for years to come.
With so much joy in the air, the arrival of the Blue Angels is not just about the planes; it’s about connecting communities, inspiring dreams, and showcasing the best of what the military has to offer.
