Authorities in Beaufort County are currently engaged in investigations following a break-in at a local Best Buy store on Fording Island Road.

Details of the Incident

The burglary was reported to have taken place on the morning of July 5, 2024, around 7:30 a.m. Deputies arrived at the Best Buy location after the store manager reported a hole cut into the roof of the business. The video footage from the store’s security cameras revealed the unexpected sight of suspects descending from this opening in the roof.

Upon exploring the premises, investigators discovered a total of three holes in different sections of the roof, each with varying purposes. One hole was presumably their primary point of entry, while they used another directly above the merchandise cases. The third hole, at the back of the store, is the subject of speculation, as the report lacks clarity about its intended purpose.

Theft

The criminals managed to make off with a substantial amount of store merchandise, including a wide variety of expensive tech gadgets. Apple Watches, laptops, and iPads numbering to tens of thousands of dollars in value were among the stolen goods. The thieves used an extension ladder to descend into the store, followed by a cordless saw to cut open the cages safeguarding the merchandise.

Suspects

According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the suspects were seen dressed in dark clothing complete with hats, masks, and gloves. They spent close to an hour inside the store. Since the investigation is still ongoing, specific details about the suspects’ identities and their current whereabouts remain undisclosed.
