Beaufort Celebrates Another Heartwarming Wreaths Across America Event

This holiday season, the charming city of Beaufort celebrated a significant milestone as it successfully completed its fifth consecutive year of the Wreaths Across America event. On Saturday, December 14, Beaufort Coordinator David Edwards confirmed that the dedicated team managed to place a beautiful Remembrance Wreath on every single headstone in the Beaufort National Cemetery.

A Day Full of Dedication

It was a heartwarming sight as over 3,500 volunteers, alongside 168 motorcycles and four trucks loaded with wreaths, gathered at the cemetery, ready to honor the memory of our heroes. Edwards couldn’t have been more pleased with how everything turned out. “I like the way everything went,” he expressed. “The weather was perfect, there were enough volunteers, and enough assistance.”

The Next Steps

But the work isn’t finished just yet! Mark your calendars for Saturday, January 11, at 8 a.m., because that’s when the wreaths will be retired. “Volunteers will be needed for that, as well,” Edwards stated. The local Waste Pro will assist in disposing of the wreaths, ensuring they are respectfully retired after a month of remembrance.

Looking Forward to Next Year

As we look ahead to next year’s event, there’s an exciting opportunity for everyone! Between now and January 15, any orders placed for wreaths will be matched by Wreaths Across America. Each Remembrance Wreath costs $17, and you can easily sponsor one by scanning the QR code on the Wreaths Across America Beaufort Facebook page or visiting www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/GA0175P. This ensures that your purchase will specifically benefit Beaufort.

A Commitment to Remember

Wreaths Across America Beaufort has a noble goal: to make sure that all 28,000 veteran heroes laid to rest in Beaufort National Cemetery receive a wreath each holiday season. Founded in 1992 by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester, Wreaths Across America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring veterans across the nation. With a mission to Remember, Honor, Teach, they coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies not only at Arlington National Cemetery but also at thousands of veterans’ cemeteries across all 50 states and beyond.

David Edwards’ Passion

As the Beaufort event approaches its 20th anniversary, Edwards shows no signs of stepping back from this heartfelt commitment. “It means a lot to me,” he remarked. “Those are my brothers and sisters out there.” His dedication truly embodies the spirit of the event, highlighting the countless lives touched by the sacrifices of our veterans.
