Beaufort Memorial Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Curtis J. Elam and nurse practitioner Melissa Mesenburg to its women’s health team. Their expertise will enhance the high-quality care available for women in the Beaufort area. In the heart of South Carolina, Beaufort is buzzing with excitement as Beaufort Memorial has expanded its women’s health services! The medical center recently added two remarkable practitioners to its team: obstetrician and gynecologist Curtis J. Elam, M.D., FACOG, and nurse practitioner Melissa Mesenburg, DNP, APRN, FNP-C. This is fantastic news for women in the area seeking high-quality care!
Dr. Elam is no stranger to women’s health. With decades of experience under his white coat, he provides general, routine, and specialized obstetrical and gynecological care for women at all stages of life. The doctor’s expertise shines through in his proficiency with laparoscopic and robotic surgeries, specifically in areas such as pelvic floor reconstruction and the treatment of stress urinary incontinence.
After earning his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, he honed his skills during his residency at Vanderbilt University. Before making Beaufort his home, Dr. Elam served as the OBGYN department head and staff physician at the Clyburn Center for Primary Care. He also has experience at Aiken Regional Medical Center in South Carolina.
Joining the team is Melissa Mesenburg, a Doctor of Nursing Practice focused on enhancing women’s health through education. Graduating from The Medical University of South Carolina in 2020, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Beaufort. In her journey, she has already made significant contributions as a family nurse practitioner in the Beaufort area and most recently led clinical operations at Friends of Caroline Hospice.
Melissa isn’t new to Beaufort Memorial either; she has been part of the Collins Birthing Center since 2014 as a registered nurse. Her return to the center in this new role adds an exciting layer of care and compassion that women deserve.
Dr. Elam and Mesenburg are joining hands with a team of talented providers including Drs. Chris Benson, Marlena Masavage, Tiffany Bersani, and several other advanced practice providers. Together, they create a robust team capable of delivering comprehensive women’s health services.
This newly expanded team will be working at the practice’s locations in Okatie and Beaufort, where they are committed to offering a full range of women’s health services that include obstetrical and gynecological care. Options for advanced screening and diagnostic technologies are plentiful, featuring the newest in state-of-the-art digital ultrasound among other modern facilities.
