July 12, 2019: Start of 64th Beaufort Water Festival

The 64th annual Beaufort Water Festival was successfully launched with a multitude of delighted attendees. The region’s esteemed organizations such as the League of Women Voters Beaufort and Indivisible Beaufort also made their presence known at the event, engaging in a peaceful Lights for Liberty vigil. They protested against the U.S. detention camps positioned along the southern border, highlighting their commitment to human rights and community activism.

2019: A Change in Beaufort Academy’s Basketball Leadership

In other sports updates, Nate Livesay, head coach for the boys’ basketball team at Beaufort Academy, announced his departure from the role. Livesay had played a pivotal role in shaping the school’s basketball team, leaving behind a notable legacy.

July 10, 2020: Young Endurance Runner Wins 50-mile Cremator Ultra Race

The following year, Beaufort received recognition in the world of long-distance running, thanks to the astonishing feat of twelve-year-old Gavin Moore. Moore triumphed at the 50-mile Cremator Ultra endurance race, running from Beaufort Town Center to St. Helena Island and back, twice. His victory was greeted with pride and admiration throughout the community.

July 14, 2020: Mayor Keyserling Declines Re-election

In even more news, after faithfully serving the City of Beaufort for three terms, Mayor Billy Keyserling announced that he would not seek re-election. His dedication and service to the city were recognized widely, and he left office with a significant imprint on Beaufort’s development.

July 17, 2021: Promotion in Karate – A New Achievement for Beaufort

Beaufort’s karate sports sphere also witnessed an inspiring story the following year. Beaufort Karate Instructor Chuck Elias won a huge accolade by being promoted to the ranks of a ninth-degree Black Belt at the United Fighting Arts Federation (UFAF) International Training Conference in Las Vegas.
Accredited by the famous martial artist Chuck Norris, Elias was one of only ten individuals promoted to ninth-degree black belts globally. His achievement sparked a wave of celebration and pride across the Beaufort community.
