A fun night downtown Beaufort took an unexpected and tragic turn when a pedestrian was hit by a car late Thursday night. The driver, clearly having very little regard for his fellow man, didn’t even slow down and just sped away. Can you believe that? But we’ve got good news – the Beaufort Police sleuths aren’t sitting on their hands. They’re on it, hot on the trail of the offender.
It was around 10:12 p.m. when the unfortunate incident happened. A group of friends was walking across Bay Street, doing what everyone does: following the streetlights, staying in the crosswalk. All of sudden, bam! one of their own was down, hit by a vehicle quicker than anyone could react. The driver? No human decency, just bolted right out of there.
Within minutes, Beaufort’s finest were on the scene, doing what they do best. They made sure the injured friend got immediate help and also started the hunt for the treacherous abomination (We’re talking about the driver here, not the car).
Come the following day, Friday that is, our dutiful officers hit the streets again. They chatted up local businesses with security cameras in hopes of getting a clearer image of the culprit vehicle and, bingo! they hit the jackpot. A gold 2005 Toyota Camry, South Carolina plate 9134PW.
Now the Beaufort Police have a solid lead but there’s one missing piece of the puzzle – that’s where you come in handy. These folks are asking for our help in finding this vehicle. Did you see something? Got info? Don’t just stash it away. Instead, do the right thing: pick up the phone and dial 911 or Beaufort County Dispatch at 843-524-2777.
If you want to skip the formalities, you can get straight to Officer Taylor at 843-322-7969. And hey, if you want to keep things low key, that’s cool too. You can just blow up the tip line at 843-322-7938 (just don’t forget to mention the case #24B34453). Every little piece of information can make a big difference here.
Updates on the case will continue to roll out, so stay tuned and remember: together, we can make a difference.
