Beaufort Police Issue Internet Safety Tips Ahead of School Start

Be in the know, not the show!

Parents in Beaufort, hold up on posting those cute back-to-school snaps of your kiddos. The Beaufort Police Department, a.k.a. your neighborhood watch squad, is dropping some important reminders about internet safety. There’s nothing like capturing your little one’s first day back at school but think twice about what information you might be revealing to the world.

What’s the deal?

The police peeps are warning us that while these photos are totally aww-worthy, they could pose a safety risk. And we’re not just talking about embarrassing your kids with their oversized backpacks. The problem is sharing too many personal deets about your child that could lead someone straight to them. If you really think about it, posting a snap of your kiddo in front of the school sign lets anyone and everyone know where your child goes to school.

What not to share

According to the fashion police – wait no, it’s the actual police – there are some key details you should definitely leave out of your social media posts. These include the name of your child’s school, your kid’s age, their teacher’s name, the grade they’re in, their height, or their weight. Basically, anything a stranger could use to potentially trick your child.

Final thoughts

The Beaufort Police aren’t trying to rain on your social media parade. They love seeing your little angels’ smiles too. They just want everybody to be smart and safe when sharing those special moments on the internet. That way, back to school can be filled with awesome memories and zero unwanted attention. So, remember parents, you can snap, but don’t over share!

Stay safe out there!
