Beaufort Gears Up for the Ninth Annual Pat Conroy Literary Festival
This November, the charming city of Beaufort will transform into a literary haven as it hosts the ninth annual Pat Conroy Literary Festival. Set for November 1 and 2, this festival is all about celebrating books, storytelling, and the incredible work of librarians.
The Heart of the Festival: Literacy and Librarianship
Inspired by the words of bestselling author Pat Conroy, who once expressed his love for libraries, the festival aims to highlight the vital role that librarians play in promoting a love of reading and storytelling. The festivities kick off with guided tours of the Pat Conroy Literary Center on October 31 and November 3, inviting the public to explore the beautiful space dedicated to Conroy’s legacy.
An Array of Engaging Activities
The festival offers a packed schedule filled with exciting activities for everyone. From author conversations and readings to panel discussions and writers workshops, there’s something for all ages. Highlights include musical performances, guided tours of the area, a film screening, and a special read-aloud session perfect for children and families.

Engaging Discussions and Important Topics
The festival will delve into important discussions about education and the freedom to read. A Freedom to Read panel featuring librarians and youth advocates will address the critical issues surrounding censorship in education, moderated by expert Pat R. Scales.
Exclusive Film Screening
In a special addition to this year’s program, attendees can enjoy a private screening of the documentary Banned Together. This event will be preceded by a heartfelt tribute to librarians, followed by a discussion with the film’s producers.
