A Festive Show for the Community
Mark your calendars for Sunday, December 15th, at 3 PM, when the Parris Island Marine Band will grace us with a delightful FREE Christmas concert. Taking place at the corner of Paris Avenue and 8th Street in Port Royal, right in the heart of the Old Village, this is one event you won’t want to miss!
For years now, this talented band has taken part in downtown Beaufort’s annual Night on the Town Christmas Celebration, charming audiences with a mix of holiday classics that everyone knows and loves. With the Parris Island Marine Band performing, prepare to sing along to timeless favorites like “Sleigh Ride”, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, and “Must’ve Been Good ‘Ol Saint Nick”.
A Local Favorite for Over a Century
The Parris Island Marine Band isn’t just any band; it has deep roots in our community, having been established over a century ago on October 28, 1915. You might think that after all these years, the band would show signs of age, but these talented Marines certainly don’t! Initially, the musicians were also involved in marksmanship and close combat instruction, supporting various military units. Fast forward to today, and the band has become a versatile ensemble, comprising the concert band, ceremonial band, rock band, jazz combo, and more!
Spreading Holiday Cheer
The primary mission of the Parris Island Marine Band is to provide musical support for recruit graduations and military ceremonies. Performing at approximately 40 recruit graduations each year, they also take their talents beyond Beaufort, participating in festivals and parades across the United States!
This holiday season, they’re bringing their talents back home for all of us to enjoy. The city asks you to join in the spirit by bringing your favorite chairs and, most importantly, a whole lot of good cheer! It’s a wonderful way for the community to come together and celebrate the festive season.
