Beaufort, SC Hosts Exciting DragonBoat Competition

The DragonBoat Beaufort 2024 Race Day was held at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park on Saturday, June 29, 2024, where it saw massive participation and successfully achieved its raised fund target of $80,000.

Race Day Highlights

During the event, 30 teams from various states lined up on the Beaufort River in their creative and outrageous costumes. The teams consisted of rowers and a drummer, who pounded the pace while team members paddled vigorously down the river. One of the most exciting moments of the day was when one team capsized their boat during one of the races but were quickly rescued by the Beaufort Water Search and Rescue crew.

Impressive Fundraising Amount

The event raised an impressive $83,087, surpassing its goal of $80,000. The funds will go to the DragonBoat Beaufort Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry. This fund is intended to provide financial support for cancer patients undergoing treatment in Beaufort County.

Fun and Excitement in Beaufort

The race day was not just about the competition; it was a carnival of sorts with spectators and participants dressed in various fun and colorful costumes. Despite the competitive spirit, the atmosphere was fun, friendly, and exciting — making it an event to remember for everyone involved.
