Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Provides Emergency Response Training to Locals

In an exciting move that has the potential to greatly benefit the local community, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has recently announced that they are offering a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training Program. Here’s everything you need to know.

What is the CERT training program?

In a nutshell, the idea behind the CERT Basic Training Program is to make sure that residents of Beaufort County are able to be self-sufficient in case of an emergency or disaster. Local residents who participate in the program will be taught a range of valuable skills and knowledge that will empower them to provide emergency assistance to those around them, including friends, family members, and neighbors.

These classes are kindly offered completely free of charge and are run at different points in the year. The next series of classes will be held in the fall of 2024, at Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue on Hilton Head Island. However, due to limited seating, registration is a must, so check out the details mentioned below if you’re interested in participating.

How can I take part in the CERT training program?

The course is split up into four separate class sessions, all of which you’ll need to attend in order to complete the program. Here’s the schedule:

  • Monday, October 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 9, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Monday, October 14, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 16, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 19, from 9 a.m. (this session is a final exercise).

If you’d like to get more information about the CERT Basic Training Program before you decide whether you want to apply, you can shoot an email over to cert@bcgov.net or give them a ring on 843-255-4007. If you’re all set to get going, you can register online at https://certapplication.paperform.co.

Why should I get involved with the CERT Basic Training Program?

In a world where anything can happen, it’s better to be safe than sorry. The CERT Basic Training Program offers valuable, practical know-how that can prove to be a real asset if emergency situations arise in the future. You’ll learn how to stay calm, self-sufficient, and helpful when your community needs you.

Self-sufficiency in a disaster situation could potentially make a big difference, not just for you, but for your loved ones and neighbors too. It’s safe to say that by taking part in this excellent initiative from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, you’re doing a favor not just for yourself, but for your whole community.
