The community is rallying to support the search for the teens and address the monkey situation.

Urgent Community News from Beaufort County

Beaufort County is buzzing with important updates as the local sheriff’s office reaches out to the community for help regarding a couple of troubling situations. Firstly, there’s a missing teen that has everyone concerned, and secondly, let’s just say, a bunch of monkeys has decided to go on an unexpected adventure!

Missing Teen Alert!

Let’s talk about the missing teen. Ava Brewer, a 15-year-old girl, has been reported missing after she left her home on Daufuskie Island. Her family and friends are worried sick, and understandably so. Ava was last spotted hopping on the Haig Point ferry around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. If you’re familiar with the area, Ava disembarked at Haig Point Circle on Hilton Head Island.

Authorities believe Ava is likely with some acquaintances, but they have serious concerns for her well-being. For those who may see or know anything about Ava, she is described as five feet, two inches tall and weighing around 120 pounds. She has captivating brown hair and sparkling blue eyes. When she was last seen, she was wearing a coral-colored sweatshirt with “Colorado” written on the front, paired with gray and black spandex shorts and fresh white Nike Air Force shoes.

The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information regarding Ava’s whereabouts to reach out at 843-524-2777. Every little bit of help could make a difference!

Another Runaway Teen

five feet tall and weighing 155 pounds.

If you’ve seen Evelyn or have any helpful tips, please don’t hesitate to contact MSgt. Seifert at 843-255-3414 or call the non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777. The community is hoping for a safe return for both teens.

Monkey Business in Yemassee

Now, shifting gears a bit—there’s some *wild* news coming from Yemassee. Over three dozen monkeys decided to escape from the Alpha Genesis primate breeding and research facility. Yes, you read that right: monkeys! Initially, 43 cheeky monkeys made their getaway when an employee accidentally left two doors wide open. Talk about a primate party!

So far, the shenanigans have resulted in 25 monkeys being rounded up, with the latest count showing that 32 have been captured. But hang onto your hats; there are still 11 monkeys who haven’t returned home yet. The monkeys were spotted lounging around in nearby trees and having a grand time on the ground. Those that have been captured are in good health and will undergo a quarantine period before they can return to research activities.

The escape has sparked quite the conversation. Local legal and animal rights experts are expressing concerns about the effects of the escape on both the monkeys and the research facilities. On a more community-focused note, local businesses are rallying together to host a ‘Lab Monkey Freedom Run’ to help raise funds for animal welfare! Over 130 runners have signed up for this event, as the community gears up to support a good cause while honoring the adventurous spirit of those escapees.

As always, the Beaufort County community is encouraged to stay informed and be vigilant. Let’s band together to help find Ava and Evelyn, and keep an eye out for any monkey business that may still be happening!
