Beaufort County Gears Up for Local Elections

With the candidates for local office in Beaufort County now all officially filed, it’s time to get revved up for another election season. This year’s lineup features a blend of familiar faces and fresh contenders, each hoping to grab a spot on the Beaufort City Council, Beaufort County Council, Beaufort County Board of Education, or the coveted mayor’s seat.

List of Candidates

Among the hopefuls, some names to know for the November ballot are: for Clerk of Court, Jerri Roseneau (Republican); the job of Coroner has Deborah Ann Youmans (Republican) running; and for spots on the County Council, keep an eye on Jevona M Armstrong (Forward Party), Adam Biery (Republican), and Gerald Dawson (Democratic) in District 1, York Glover (Democratic) for District 3, and in District 7 we have Logan S Cunningham (Republican) and Sarah McCarty (Democratic).

For the Soil and Water District Commission, we have Denise M Parsick (Nonpartisan); looking to get onto the Board of Education are Isaac Gordon, Trad C Williams in District 1, Alphonso Small Jr. in District 6, Leal K Frazier in District 9, and Ingrid Boatright in District 11, all nonpartisan candidates.

In the race for Mayor of the City of Beaufort, incumbents Phil Cromer and Josh Scallate are both running as nonpartisans. Looking to secure a City Council Seat are Julie Crenshaw, Josh Gibson, Neil B Lipsitz, and Mitch Mitchell, again all nonpartisans.

Election Date and Beyond Local

Ready for the big day? It’s coming up on November 5, 2024. And if checking out your local candidates isn’t enough for you, you’ll also be able to vote for statewide Senate and Representative seats. Oh, and it also happens to be a presidential election year, meaning you’ll also be choosing who will move into the White House. It’s a big year for democracy lovers, indeed!

This race is not just about the power-holders at the helm – it’s about each citizen having a say in who makes the decisions affecting their daily lives. So, wherever you stand on the political spectrum, make sure to get out there and make your voice heard. After all, it’s your local government, and these candidates are vying to represent you.
