Looks like the who’s who and the who might be’s of local politics in Beaufort County are gearing up for an exciting election this coming November. The cut-off date for filing has passed, and we now have a healthy mix of old hands running for re-election and fresh faces hoping to win open seats on the Beaufort City Council, Beaufort County Council, Beaufort County Board of Education, and for the Beaufort Mayoral seat.
Two well-respected professionals, Jerri Roseneau and Deborah Ann Youmans, are running for Clerk of Court and Coroner as Republicans, respectively. Jevona M Armstrong (Forward Party), Adam Biery (Republican), and Gerald Dawson (Democratic) will be battling it out for a seat representing District 1 in the County Council. York Glover (Democratic), Logan S Cunningham (Republican), and Sarah McCarty (Democratic) are set to shine in their respective County Council Districts.
The race for the Soil and Water District Commission position features nonpartisan candidate Denise M Parsick. Isaac Gordon, Trad C Williams, Alphonso Small Jr., Leal K Frazier, and Ingrid Boatright also run as nonpartisan candidates for the various districts of the Beaufort County Board of Education.
As for the contest to grab the reigns of the city as Mayor, folks will be choosing between Phil Cromer and Josh Scallate, both nonpartisan candidates. Keeping it within the city, there’s going to be a tough competition for Beaufort City Council Seat between Julie Crenshaw, Josh Gibson, Neil B Lipsitz, and Mitch Mitchell. Again, these hopefuls are running as nonpartisan candidates.
For those who aren’t keeping count, Election Day is set for November 5, 2024. There’s plenty at stake besides local positions. This year’s ballot will also feature statewide Senate and Representative seats, spots in the U.S. House of Representatives, and oh, did we mention it’s a presidential election year? Yep, whoever’s gunning for the Oval Office will also appear on the ballot in Beaufort County. So, stay informed and make sure to get out there and make your vote count!
