Through generous sponsorship from Bissell Pet Foundation, adoption fees during the event will be reduced to $50 or less for pets. At BCAS, adoption fees for dogs aged six months and older will be completely waived. The shelter, located at 10 Pritcher Point Road in Okatie, is open for adoptions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Prospective adopters can find additional details by visiting www.pitstopdogs.com.
Air conditions have been harsh with wildfires and extreme heat affecting many shelters. Consequently, some have to accommodate evacuated pets, leading to overcrowding and, unfortunately, also to euthanization of highly adoptable pets. The Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event is more than just an adoption drive, it presents a crucial opportunity for people to make a real difference by providing a home for these helpless animals.
This is BCAS’s first time participating in the Empty the Shelters event. Given the current overcrowded state of the shelter, BCAS is hopeful and excited to find forever homes for each dog currently at the shelter.
Empty the Shelters has grown tremendously since its inception in 2016. Encouraging families to choose adoption, the program has successfully placed more than 253,000 pets in loving homes. It is the Bissell Pet Foundation’s largest program and partners with 742 animal welfare organizations across 49 states and even in Canada, by sponsoring reduced adoption fees.
While Bissell Pet Foundation and BCAS are urging families to adopt, they also emphasize the importance of researching the pet and understanding the adoption requirements.
