Beaufort Community Comes Together to Support Victims of Human Trafficking

In the charming city of Beaufort, a wonderful initiative is blossoming! At the fourth-quarter meeting held in October by the inspiring group called 100 Women Who Care (WWC), three passionate nonprofit organizations had the opportunity to share their vital missions with local women. Their goal? To rally support to aid those in need.

Making a Difference in the Lowcountry

After heartfelt presentations, the group decided to direct their attention and resources toward the Helianthus Project. This organization holds a special place in the hearts of many, as its mission is focused on assisting minor and youth victims of human trafficking within the Lowcountry. As a community, they aim to shine a light on this critical issue, offering free education about human trafficking to both the local community and businesses.

In collaboration with the South Carolina State Human Trafficking Taskforce and the Lowcountry Human Trafficking Taskforce, the Helianthus Project works diligently to secure necessary resources and financial assistance for victims and their families. This collaborative spirit reflects what makes the Beaufort community so special. When one organization thrives, it uplifts everyone around it!

A Generous Donation to Kickstart Progress

The warm-hearted women of WWC didn’t hold back, either! In November, Laura Riski, the coordinator of the Beaufort chapter, proudly presented a check for an astonishing $12,400 to Rachel McBride, the founder and executive director of the Helianthus Project. This generous contribution will kickstart the project’s new Advocacy Program, designed to provide certified Advocates who will work closely with victims and their families.

The advocates aim to provide all-around support, from emotional to financial aid. They will assist with essential needs such as housing, clothing, food, hygiene products, and even safe transportation to counseling sessions and medical appointments. The service will even extend to providing co-pay assistance when needed, ensuring that the victims have access to necessary care.

Impacting the Community for Good

What’s even more astonishing is that 100 Women Who Care has broken the remarkable threshold of $500,000 in donations to nonprofits in Northern Beaufort County! This milestone showcases the collective power of local women who meet quarterly, each contributing a $100 check to the selected nonprofit organization. This model demonstrates how powerful community support can truly be!
