Beaufort Honors a Dedicated Veteran: Bob Krebs

In the charming city of Beaufort, we’re excited to spotlight a remarkable individual who has not only served his country but also continued to give back to the community. Meet Bob Krebs, an inspiring 80-year-old veteran who joined the United States Marine Corps back in 1963.

A Journey Begins

Bob’s journey started in Cleveland, Ohio, where he took the brave step of enlisting in the Marines. After completing Boot Camp at the iconic Parris Island, Bob trained diligently for 31 weeks at Naval Air Station Millington in Tennessee. His dedication and hard work paid off when he earned the qualifications to service communication and navigation equipment on Marine aircraft, particularly the dynamic A-4 Skyhawk.

Service in Vietnam

Bob was soon assigned to a squadron at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, where he honed his skills further. In a noteworthy chapter of his military tenure, he deployed to Chu Lai, Vietnam, from 1965 to 1966, serving in a crucial role during a tumultuous time in history. After a year in Vietnam, Bob returned to Cherry Point, wrapping up his enlistment in 1967.

Life After the Corps

With a strong foundation from his military experience, Bob utilized the GI Bill to pursue higher education at Cleveland State University, where he earned a degree in Business and Marketing. This educational achievement opened doors for him, leading to a successful 33-year career with AT&T and Lucent Technologies. Bob’s ability to blend his training from the Corps with his academic knowledge paved the way for his professional success.

A New Chapter in Sun City

In 2014, Bob decided it was time for a change of scenery and moved to Sun City. Embracing his retirement, he dove headfirst into volunteer work, dedicating a decade of service at the Marine Corps Museum on Parris Island. His connection to the Marines remained strong as he became an active member of the Marine Corps League, showing that the values of commitment and service didn’t end with his military discharge.
