Bluffton Celebrates 20 Years of Art and Seafood Festivity!
Bluffton, a charming town known for its rich history and cultural vibrancy, is buzzing with excitement as it kicks off the 20th Anniversary of the Art and Seafood Festival. This beloved community event runs through October 20 this year, bringing together art lovers, seafood enthusiasts, and families for a delightful 20-day celebration!
A Journey Through Two Decades
Can you believe it’s been 20 years since this festival started? It all began as a humble one-day event and has now blossomed into a vibrant, lengthy celebration showcasing the essence of Bluffton. According to a festival spokesperson, “Please join us for a true celebration of fine art and the bounty of the sea!” And that’s exactly what attendees can expect!
What to Look Forward To
As we dive into this year’s festivities, there’s a lot to look forward to! Mark your calendars for the Blessing of the Fleet, set for October 13 at 4 p.m.. This cherished tradition pays homage to the fishing boats and their crews as they venture into the waters. It’s a heartwarming ceremony you won’t want to miss!
Additionally, on the same day, there will be a Showcase of Local Art at various galleries, alongside an outdoor art exhibit at Martin Park from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the historic Old Town Bluffton. It’s the perfect chance to meet local artists, admire their work, and even take a piece of Bluffton home with you!
Get Ready for Some Tasty Treats!
Now, let’s talk about something we all love—food! The first oyster roast of the season will kick off at 5 p.m. at Bluffton Oyster Park—a classic Lowcountry experience!
On October 14, the festival offers a special Dinner & Learn event at the Waddell Mariculture Center and Bluffton Seafood House from 4:40 p.m. to 6 p.m.. This gathering will feature discussions on the natural resources of our region and the conservation practices essential for their preservation.
A Literary Gathering
Bookworms and literature lovers will find joy in the Author Night on October 16, taking place at the Rotary Community Center in Oscar Frazier Park. From 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., you can catch local authors, including the co-authors of Gullah Days: Hilton Head Islanders Before the Bridge 1861-1956, discussing their work and inspirations.
Street Fest Extravaganza
The excitement continues with the outdoor Street Fest on October 19 and 20. Enjoy an artist showcase and market on Calhoun Street featuring over 100 artists from 10 states, showcasing their fine art. Local restaurants, food trucks, and caterers will satisfy your cravings with mouthwatering seafood dishes and delectable Lowcountry cuisine.
Fun for the Whole Family
This festival is not just for adults! Kids can join in on the fun with activities including a Children’s Fishing Tournament and children’s art activities happening within the park. And for those wanting to break a sweat, sign up for the Old Town Oyster 10K and 5K run on Saturday morning!
