Beaufort Families Unite for Book Advocacy
In the charming city of Beaufort, South Carolina, a community movement is bubbling up, bringing families and students together for a cause that’s near and dear to many hearts—advocating for book access and educational resources. Families Against Book Bans (FABB) Beaufort County is taking a proactive stance this October by hosting two training sessions designed to empower community members in voicing their opinions at Board of Education meetings.
Empowering Young Voices
The first event, Training for Student Advocates, is set to take place on Sunday, October 6th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 157 Lady’s Island Drive. This session is specifically tailored for students, but the doors are wide open for anyone interested in joining the discussion. FABB believes that every voice matters, especially the voices of young advocates who will shape the future of education in their community.
Open Sessions for All
The second opportunity, Training for All Advocates, will be held on Wednesday, October 9th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bluffton Library, found at 120 Palmetto Way. This session aims to provide insight into how school board meetings function, the types of decisions boards face, and effective strategies for advocating for or against these decisions.
These training sessions mark just the beginning of a busy month for FABB, with promises of two additional events focusing on the mechanisms of local school boards and ways to engage in these crucial civic matters. The organization hopes to equip community members with the knowledge necessary to navigate the world of educational advocacy confidently.
A Call for Community Involvement
“We believe that education is a fundamental right, and access to diverse reading materials is essential for our students,” said a FABB representative. “Engaging the community is key to ensuring that every child has the resources they need to thrive.” These sessions are not just for seasoned activists but for anyone who feels passionate about education and wants to take part in their local school board’s decisions.
Fun Activities for Young Learners
Aside from the advocacy efforts, families may also be interested in keeping their kids entertained as they embark on road trips or weekend adventures. Dr. Aimee Ketchum shares several creative activities to keep children engaged and tantrum-free. Whether it’s singing along to favorite tunes or playing simple travel games, keeping little ones occupied can make any journey much smoother!
Holiday Preparations Are Here
For those with little ones who adore trendy toys, it’s also the perfect time to get in on some serious holiday shopping. This year, there’s an exciting Squishmallow Advent that’s expected to fly off the shelves. If you have a fan in your household, you might want to act fast to secure this unique item before it sells out!
Embrace the Spirit of the Season
As the air begins to cool and fall festivities approach, homeowners may want to think about sprucing up their Halloween décor. Vintage ceramic trees are making a comeback, and top retailers are stocking these eye-catching pieces that bring nostalgic vibes to any autumn celebration.

With two crucial sessions just around the corner, Beaufort’s families are stepping up to make their voices heard. Whether you’re a student eager to speak out or a parent wanting to support your child’s advocacy journey, FABB’s events provide the perfect stepping stones. They invite everyone interested in educational access and advocacy to participate and learn how they can make a difference.
