Beaufort Gears Up for the 8th Annual Lowcountry Book Club Convention
Hey there, book lovers! If you adore the charm of the South, love nothing more than a good read, or are a fan of the renowned author Pat Conroy, then grab your calendar and mark down September 27 and 28. This year’s Lowcountry Book Club Convention is set to unfold in the stunning coastal town of Beaufort, South Carolina, promising two days filled with literary joy, engaging discussions, and delightful company.
Get Ready for a Literary Adventure!
The convention will kick off on Friday evening at the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort. Picture this: a cozy atmosphere filled with fellow bibliophiles, an exciting panel discussion featuring four talented authors, and the smell of delicious food wafting in the air. With authors like Virginia Hall-Apicella (author of Even a Sparrow), Michael DeWitt (known for The Fall of the House of Murdaugh), Pete Masalin (who wrote Military Brat), and Kim Poovey (author of Shadows of the War), this event promises a night of captivating stories and insights.
This delightful conversation will be moderated by the Conroy Center’s executive director, Jonathan Haupt, and will be followed by a book signing and a catered reception by the wonderful Debbi Covington. It’s a ticketed event, so make sure to secure yours to join in on all the fun at Building 12 of the TCL campus (104 Reynolds St., Beaufort).
Saturday: A Day for All Book Lovers!
But wait, the excitement doesn’t stop there! On Saturday, Sept. 28, the festivities continue at the Culinary Institute of the South in nearby Bluffton (1 Venture Dr.). Here, you’ll be treated to three special author keynote conversations. Get ready to dive deep into the minds of talented writers!
One of the highlights will be Kimberly Brock, whose latest book The Fabled Earth releases just in time for the convention on October 1. She’ll be conversing with Jonathan Haupt about her unforgettable storytelling and the magic of memory. Then, award-winning middle school librarian Amanda Jones, author of That Librarian, will take center stage during a special event for Let Freedom Read Day, where she will be interviewed by Karen Gareis. Jones’s book addresses the challenges libraries face today, making it a must-read for anyone interested in the landscape of literature in our society.
Lastly, a conversation with Rhonda McKnight, author of The Thing About Home, promises to be just as enriching as she discusses themes of faith and hope in her writing. Each conversation will be followed by a book signing, giving you a chance to chat with the authors and grab a signed copy of their works!
Don’t Miss Out!
Mark your calendars because this event is not just for book club members, but for anyone who simply loves to read. Whether you’re looking to start a book club, want to meet fellow readers, or just enjoy the sheer joy of literature, this convention offers something for everyone!
