Ladies and gents, mark your calendars! The 8th Annual Lowcountry Book Club Convention is taking over the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort on September 27, and the Culinary Institute of the South in Bluffton on September 28. This exciting event is brought to you by the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center. It’s a must-attend for book club members and anyone who just loves to read! If you’re looking to join a club too, this is the place to be.
What’s in store for the Convention?
The convention kicks off on Friday evening with a juicy panel discussion featuring local authors like novelist Virginia Hall-Apicella, journalist Michael DeWitt Jr., novelist Pete Masalin, and novelist Kim Poovey. And guess what? There’s a book signing and reception after the discussion, perfect for mingling and meeting your favourite authors.
The party continues on Saturday at the Culinary Institute of the South in Bluffton, with more author keynote conversations and gourmet box lunches. Get ready for conversations with novelist Kimberly Brock, author of The Fabled Earth, school librarian Amanda Jones, author of That Librarian, and novelist Rhonda McKnight, author of The Thing About Home. Once the conversations wind up, there’s another chance for you to get your books signed. Hello, new additions to your bookshelf!
Meet the Keynote Authors
Kimberly Brock is popular for her stunning works of fiction, including the award-winning The River Witch. She’s big on Southern landscapes and Gilded Age glamour and her latest novel, The Fabled Earth, promises to be an exciting journey.
Then there’s Amanda Jones, who is not just an author but a celebrated educator. She’s said to be fighting the good fight against book bans and her memoir, That Librarian, is a testament to the importance of having the freedom to read.
Rhonda McKnight, an Emma Award winner, has penned several popular novels, including An Inconvenient Friend. She enjoys writing about faith, forgiveness, and hope. Her recent novel, The Thing About Home, looks really promising.

Journalist Michael M. DeWitt Jr. is known for his editorship of The Hampton County Guardian and his books, the latest being Fall of the House of Murdaugh.
