Longtime Local Favorite Fat Patties in Port Royal is Shutting Doors After 12 Years

The Popular Restaurant Prepares to Serve Its Last Burger on August 24th

After a phenomenal run spanning 12 years, much-loved eating joint and an intrinsic part of the Port Royal community, Fat Patties recently announced its imminent closure.

This local gem, famous for its innovative menu of handcrafted burgers, sandwiches, brats, unique side dishes, and a mind-boggling array of local craft beers, will turn off the stoves and shut the bar for the final time on August 24th. It’s indeed a sad day for burger enthusiasts and beer connoisseurs, with the departure of one of Beaufort County’s more iconic eateries.

Publicly confirming the unexpected announcement, the owner, Nick Borreggine, posted a message in the warmest words on Facebook. “A heartfelt thank you to all our guests, patrons who turned into family, employees, suppliers, and friends. Without you, our journey would never have taken flight,” he said.

Fat Patties Bids Farewell, but not for Long

But don’t get too downhearted, folks. Nick suggests that while you’re more than welcome to swing by, share some memories, and bid the place a fond farewell, there could be more exciting developments on the horizon. Stay tuned for a “new and exciting restaurant concept that we’re *literally* building from scratch”.

Could this innovative restaurateur, who rolled out the widely popular ShellRing Ale Works next to the water in Port Royal a couple of years back and more recently took over the reins of the long-established local hangout, Alvin Ord’s on Ribaut Road, have another trick up his sleeve?

Potential clues in the Facebook post hint at a forthcoming venture, leading the food-loving crowd in Beaufort County to eagerly speculate about what kind of culinary sensation Borreggine may introduce next.

Notably, Borreggine’s knack for creating concept restaurants, illustrated with the much-admired Fat Patties, only fuels the anticipatory passion of food-lovers and fans of the man who brought life and joy to the remarkable waterfront of Port Royal.

While it’s ‘Goodbye’ for now, we’ve no doubt that Fat Patties will have left plenty satisfied appetites and happy memories in its wake. The departure of this community icon from the neighborhood marks the end of an unforgettable chapter for Port Royal’s food scene, adding a touch of nostalgia and expectancy for what comes next for this food-loving community.

Stay Tuned for More!

So to all the burger fans who found a second home at Fat Patties, remember: Stay patient, stay hopeful. Once the doors close on August 24th, a new culinary adventure might soon open its doors. Thanks to Fat Patties for many great years, and we’re excited to see what Borreggine serves up next!
