Beaufort Skyline Set for a Dramatic Change
Our sleepy, southern town of Beaufort is about to get a big city makeover! Come a year from now, we’re likely to see a brand-new 2- to 3-story building hitting up our skyline, all thanks to tbe go-ahead the project got this July.
The New Face of Downtown Beaufort
The upcoming building, planned by our very own local property owner and developer, Graham Trask, is looking at a net area of 18,000 square-foot—a real whopper. Sure, when the project was initially presented at the board meeting back in May, a few eyebrows did raise concerning the building’s size, the chosen materials, design aesthetic, parking space issues, and the sort—but hey, we had to make sure everything was cool, right?
No worries though, the city planners were in the favor of the project. You see, they figured the proposed building actually matched the old-timey style of the waterfront. And as for the building being the new tallest dude on Bay Street, it won’t be that towering, considering the highest part of the structure will be nestled right in the middle of the property.
Trask was pretty kicked about the approval and expressed gratitude to all those who had a say in expediting the project.
Checking out the In-dwelling Eateries and Offices
Take a breather, foodies and bar-goers of Beaufort! Trask’s upcoming offering doesn’t just stop at being a mere structure—it’s set to house a restaurant on the first floor and possibly another one plus a rooftop bar on the third floor! And for all you workaholics, Trask’s got your back with planned office spaces lining the second floor.
While Trask is still playing hot and cold with potential restaurant and rooftop bar tenants, he’s positive about the construction part, expecting it to wrap up in about a year’s time. And as for the need for a new restaurant in town, Trask said, “We believe the restaurant scene…is sub-par for a town like Beaufort and believe there’s an opportunity for a new restaurant group to come in and provide a lovely alternative to the incumbent players.”
A Sneak Peek into the Transition
The place where the new building is cited to rise currently hosts YoYo’s Ice Cream. Now, this cute little building will have to make way for the new development, but it’s not all doom and gloom. The neighboring joints including Cook on Bay, YoYo’s Frozen Yogurt, and the charming The Rustic Pup Biscuits and Boutique will continue to serve their delightful treats sans disruption.
So Beaufort people, let’s wrap up the old and usher in the new. Raise your glasses and toast to the enjoyable change!
