Beaufort County Walk for Water is Back in September!
Guess what? The Beaufort County Walk for Water, an annual event that rallies everyone to push for clean and safe water access, is hitting the road again this September! That’s right, the organizers are expecting to see around 1,000 passionate walkers putting their sneakers on to participate in this crucial cause.
This year, the first walk is set for Saturday, Sept. 14, at the picturesque Live Oaks Park in Port Royal. And if you can’t make it to this one, don’t sweat. Another walk is taking place on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the gorgeous Wright Family Park in Bluffton.
Striving for Access to Safe and Clean Water
Beaufort County Walk for Water isn’t just about walking; it’s about making a difference – a significant one. The participants are pledging their commitment to raise a whopping $100,000 to combat the global water crisis.
Why does it matter? Because there is a pressing need for access to sustainable, safe water all over the world. This walkathon is a part of that solution by raising funds for Water Mission, an incredible nonprofit Christian engineering organization in Charleston that’s putting its hearts and minds into creating safe water solutions for developing countries and areas hit by disasters.
Every Step Counts
Last year, the Walk for Water reached a historic high with over 700 walkers participating from both sides of the Beaufort River. According to Robert Lasher, Chairman of the Beaufort County Walk for Water committee, the funds raised can have a direct impact on furthering the cause. He informed that even a $50 donation could provide ongoing access to safe and clean water for a single person, whereas a $500 donation could create latrine sanitation for a community.
Experience the Walk and Understand the Cause
During the 3-mile walk, participants will get a chance to experience a glimpse of what millions of women and children in developing countries go through daily. They’ll be encouraged to carry a bucket of water for part of the journey, signifying the physical burden of collecting water, often unsafe and contaminated. And the scary part is that a person dies from water-related illness every 37 seconds in the world.
