Young Novelist’s Outstanding Achievements

Beaufort High School young novelist Rebecca Thompson, winner of the Ann Head Literary Prize, will be the spotlight of this month’s Open Mic Night, hosted at the Pat Conroy Literary Center. The event, which welcomes public participation, is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 11, at the Conroy Center at 601 Bladen Street.

Thompson, the author of the popular duology — “The Girl of the Tree” and “Seeking the Truth,” began her writing journey during the trying times of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the challenges, she was committed to publishing her first book. The Lowcountry, South Carolina resident not only managed to self-publish a novel as a teenage author but went ahead to write another one. She currently lives with her family, including two cats and a fish.
