Chilly Weather Takes Over Beaufort as Hurricane Season Closes!
Good news and bad news, folks! As we wave goodbye to hurricane season in Beaufort, the Lowcountry is preparing to face an entirely different challenge—the cold! Yes, we’ve traded in the winds and rains of hurricanes for frosty nights and chilly days!
Frost Advisory Alert: Time to Bundle Up!
On Friday, the National Weather Service in Charleston issued a frost advisory that will affect not just Beaufort, but also the beautiful town of Hilton Head, Townsend, Edisto Beach, Savannah, Pooler, and Garden City. If you have sensitive outdoor plants, it’s time to take action! Temperatures might drop as low as 33 degrees tonight, leading to frost formation between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. Saturday. This means that you should cover or bring in your delicate plants to keep them safe from the chill.
But hold on! It’s going to be even chillier in those inland areas where frost warnings are already in effect. If you thought Beaufort was chilly, think again! The temperatures will remain low even into early next week, with highs barely reaching the 50s and nighttime lows just above freezing. Yikes!
A Wrap-Up of Hurricane Season
Now onto the silver lining of this chilly cloud—hurricane season has officially wrapped up! That’s right, folks, it’s over! Frank Strait, the severe weather liaison with the South Carolina State Climate Office, broke the news during his weekly weather report, sweetening the deal with a hearty, “It’s over!”
This season was not without its challenges for South Carolina though! The state faced its fair share of weather drama, highlighted by Hurricane Debby, who generously dumped bucketloads of rain on us in August, followed by Hurricane Helene that wreaked havoc in September. It was quite a ride, and many of us are relieved to put all that behind us!
Preparing for the Cold
So what can you do to prepare for this cold snap? Grab some blankets and cozy up! If you haven’t already, now’s the perfect time to make sure your outdoor plants are prepped for frost. You might want to swing by the store to pick up some protective coverings or even some mulch to help maintain the warmth around your roots. If you have pets that stay outside, make sure they’ve got a little warmth to snuggle up to as well!
As we brace ourselves for this chilly weather, remember to take care of not just your plants but also yourself. Bundle up in layers, don those scarves and mittens, and enjoy the delightful crispness in the air—after all, it can be quite refreshing! And don’t forget to keep an eye on local weather updates, particularly if conditions escalate.
Stay Informed!
While you dive into your holiday festivities, let’s not forget to stay vigilant! Although hurricane season is officially behind us, it’s always wise to keep an eye on the weather forecast. This unpredictable weather can surprise us at any moment, and being prepared will keep you safe and comfortable.
So here’s to a safe winter season ahead, Beaufort! Keep warm, stay cozy, and enjoy the beauty of the Lowcountry, whether wrapped up in a blanket at home or taking a brisk walk outside!
