Beaufort city councilman makes a memorable appearance on The Price is Right.
Neil Lipsitz, a Beaufort city councilman, made his long-awaited appearance on ‘The Price is Right’. After 20 failed attempts over nearly 30 years, he finally achieved his dream. Despite a mishap on stage, he participated in the bidding game and experienced a lifetime memory. With plans to return, Lipsitz embodies the spirit of persistence and passion that resonates with the Beaufort community.
Beaufort is buzzing with excitement as city councilman Neil Lipsitz has finally made his long-awaited appearance on the popular game show “The Price is Right”. After nearly 30 years and 20 failed attempts to snag a spot on the show, his dreams came true when he was called up during an episode that aired on March 24, 2025.
Lipsitz, who has served on the Beaufort City Council and won two elections, made the trek to Glendale, California, for the taping in December 2024. Accompanied by his sister, Judy Thornberry, he couldn’t contain his excitement when he heard his name announced. The moment was a culmination of years of wishing and trying to be cast on the show, which is known for its light-hearted fun and guessing games.
But the journey to contestant row wasn’t without its hiccups. Lipsitz, filled with adrenaline and caffeine, suddenly found himself on the floor after being called up. This unexpected tumble—thanks to a combination of bad knees and pure shock—was certainly not how he envisioned his debut. Fellow contestants rushed to help him back to his feet, and in a clever edit, the fall was removed from the airwave version of the show. The light-hearted host, Drew Carey, playfully addressed the mishap when Lipsitz was back on his feet.
Once back in action, Lipsitz threw himself into the iconic bidding game. Guessing the value of two drones, he managed to nail a bid of $1,350, which put him in the right ballpark compared to the actual total of $1,700. This win was a thrilling highlight for Lipsitz, who couldn’t help but place his hand over his heart as he rushed to the stage after hearing the good news.
At 66 years old, Lipsitz is more than just a fan of game shows; his family has a rich history in Beaufort, having run an iconic department store. For him, watching episodes of “The Price is Right” has been a cherished pastime, especially during moments of stress. Not only does he have a keen sense for estimating prices, but he also dreams of checking off experiences from his bucket list—like seeing a Billy Joel concert with great seats!
While Lipsitz did not take home the grand prize in the main game, he described the entire event as an “experience of a lifetime.” Not to forget, he plans to share his excitement by gifting one of the drones he won to his son and the other to a dear friend—spreading joy as he returns to his everyday life in Beaufort.
Lipsitz isn’t quitting just yet! He’s already thinking about his next chance to be a contestant, as he is excited about returning to “The Price is Right” after the standard 10-year waiting period for former contestants. With his passion for game shows, Lipsitz has certainly made a memorable mark, and who knows? Perhaps we’ll see him back again, even after all these years of persistence.
The Beaufort community is undoubtedly proud of Neil Lipsitz and his incredible journey. His story serves as a heartwarming reminder that dreams, no matter how long they take, are worth pursuing!
