Neil Lipsitz brings his dream to life on The Price is Right game show set.
Neil Lipsitz, a dedicated Beaufort City Councilman, realized a 30-year dream by competing on ‘The Price is Right’ after 17 attempts. With the support of his sister and a relentless spirit, he made it to the stage and won two drones. This experience not only marks a personal achievement but also brings him closer to completing his bucket list. Lipsitz remains committed to his community even as he celebrates this significant milestone.
Nestled in the charming town of Beaufort, one city councilman has made a 30-year dream a reality! Neil Lipsitz, a dedicated member of the Beaufort City Council, finally stepped onto the iconic set of The Price is Right after a staggering 17 attempts over three decades. His adventure reached a fever pitch on December 4, 2024, when he was selected to compete on the beloved game show.
With a relentless spirit, Lipsitz has attended tapings of The Price is Right for almost 35 years, always hoping to be chosen as a contestant. Each time he’d watch the episodes, his heart would race with excitement, dreaming that one day he would stand in front of the spinning wheel. That day finally came, and one can only imagine the jubilation he felt as he received “the call” to be part of the game show on that fateful day.
One crucial support system throughout this lengthy journey has been his sister, Judy Thornberry. Accompanying him to the December taping, Judy’s unwavering encouragement meant the world to Neil. Interestingly, his wife decided to skip the casting sessions, perhaps choosing to leave it to the dynamic duo of Neil and Judy.
The road to being selected was not an easy one. For his initial audition, Lipsitz camped out overnight, braving the elements with sheer determination. He often recalls how Bob Barker, the iconic former host, engaged with him during that first experience, boosting his passion for the show even further. On casting day, in a bid to enhance his chances, he decided to indulge in multiple cups of black coffee, even though he typically shunned the beverage. His strategy? To channel energy and enthusiasm, which he knew were key to impressing the show’s producers.
When Lipsitz finally stood on the stage, the thrill was palpable. His excitement took over as he dashed up and down the stairs, rallying the audience’s cheers. However, in a twist of fate, he stumbled and fell while heading to Contestant Row. Thankfully, that moment was edited out of the aired episode, but the host Drew Carey later referenced the fall during filming. Despite taking a spill, Lipsitz’s spirit remained high as he declined medical assistance, eager to keep the show rolling.
His efforts paid off! Lipsitz clinched his first prize – not one, but two drones! In his trademark generous style, he plans to share the joy by gifting one drone to his son and another to a friend. Unfortunately, he missed out on the showcase offer after spinning the wheel, which was complicated by a lingering arm injury from his earlier fall, but the excitement of winning still gleamed in his eyes.
For Neil, this experience signifies more than just a game show victory; it brings him one step closer to completing his personal bucket list. With only attending a Billy Joel concert left on his to-do list, he’s reflecting on what a journey it has been. But he’s not done just yet. Lipsitz hinted at a desire to return to the show after the mandatory 10-year waiting period for reappearances – a testament to his unwavering love for the experience.
While he celebrates his personal milestones, Lipsitz remains committed to serving the Beaufort community and tackling his bucket list goals for the city as well. His journey on The Price is Right may have concluded, but his adventures, both personal and civic, are far from over.
