So, you may be wondering, why should you become a poll worker? Well, the South Carolina Election Commission estimates that between 13,000 to 17,000 poll workers are needed statewide to make this election a success. Each polling location needs three managers for every 500 registered voters to ensure everything goes off without a hitch. That means there’s a great need for dedicated individuals like you to step up!
Not only do you get to be a part of something bigger, but poll workers also arrive bright and early at 6 a.m. on Election Day, as the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.. In return for your hard work, poll workers receive a payment of $60 for training and $75 for working on Election Day. If you qualify as a poll clerk, you may even earn extra pay, with some counties boosting the rates even higher!
Recruitment for poll workers is on the rise, and that’s not just happening here in Beaufort County. Other areas, including Charleston, Greenville, and Richland, are also making strides to attract candidates. Fortunately, Beaufort County feels confident in its ability to recruit enough workers based on previous election experiences. It’s all hands on deck, and every one of you can contribute!
